Jay grew up in Seattle, Washington and lived in New York City for a decade. After earning an MFA at Parsons, he promptly jumped into the culinary world, where he worked in restaurants in New York, the Caribbean, and Seattle. He later moved into teaching as a chef instructor, helping people understand cooking techniques through hands on classes. He uses his background as a chef to guide his exploration in coffee and espresso and writes about it here, as well as taking lots of photos of espresso machines.
